I had this problem for weeks now, and after removing and re-installing Avast, it still persists. Avast will scan and stop at 50% with no explanation or error messages. This is an iMac 21.5 late 3013 running OSx Sierra Another issue, which I wanted to address before posting this, was to generate a support package however, the route described in the posts here, seem to be working differently for me as you will see in the screenshots attached, and I am unable to generate this package when I click Help → Avast Technical Support → Generate support package but get a feedback windows instead, which leaves no file when completed.

Please shed some light in this anyone.

Feeling dumb.not a computer wizard and new to Macs. I've read this whole forum and not found anything that works. I first tried dragging and dropping Avast into the recycle bin, that didn't work. The response was that it could not be deleted because 'Com.avast.macavast.mad' is in use. I don't know how to use the other two 'for extra cleanup' recommendations. Also, I tried to go under preferences on the Avast menu.and that was greyed out. I can quit the application and scanner under the menu bar, but I hat it popping up all the time.

And, to be honest, I am annoyed I can't figure it out. Please over-explain all of this.
